What does Philippians 1:7 mean?
It makes sense for me to feel this way about all of you, because you’re in my heart. Whether I’m locked up or out there defending and explaining the message, you all share in God’s kindness with me. Philippians 1:7 - Modern Text Bible
(Paul’s affection is deep; he sees them as partners in everything, even in his suffering and work.)
Paul says it’s only right for him to feel so strongly about the Philippians, because they share in his experiences—both the good and the hard. The Greek word sugkoinōnos (συγκοινωνός) means co-partner or someone who shares fully in something. Paul’s connection to them isn’t just sentimental; it’s rooted in shared struggles, support, and standing together even when things get tough.
This verse goes against the idea that real relationships are only about good times or surface-level connection. Instead, it values loyalty and shared purpose, especially when things are difficult. If you’ve ever felt alone in your challenges or wondered if anyone really understands what you’re going through, this verse points to the kind of deep bond that’s possible when people stand with each other through thick and thin.
