What does 1 John 3:7 mean?
Dear children, don’t let anyone fool you. If you do what’s right, you’re righteous, just like he is righteous. 1 John 3:7 - Modern Text Bible
(John warns against being misled: doing what’s right is the evidence of being right with God.)
Doing what’s right is the real sign of being right with God. The Greek word for "righteous" is dikaios, meaning just or morally upright. The verse warns against being misled by talk or appearances—what matters is action, not just claims or feelings.
This challenges the idea that sincerity or belief alone is enough, or that you can separate what you do from who you are. It’s a pushback against hypocrisy and empty words, both in ancient times and today.
If you’re tired of people saying one thing and doing another, this verse says you’re not alone. What you do matters more than what you say, and the way you live is the clearest window into what’s real for you.
