What does Revelation 13:11 mean?
Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb but spoke like a dragon. Revelation 13:11 - Modern Text Bible
(A second beast appears, looking harmless but speaking with the voice of evil—deceptive power.)
A second beast rises from the earth, looking gentle like a lamb but speaking with the voice of a dragon. The Greek word for "beast" is thērion, which means a wild, dangerous animal. The contrast between its appearance and its voice is striking—it looks safe, but its words reveal its true nature.
This verse pushes back on the idea that you can always trust appearances. Sometimes, what seems harmless or even good on the surface can hide something much more dangerous underneath. The warning is not to be fooled by looks or charm alone.
If you’ve ever trusted someone or something that seemed safe, only to be surprised by their real intentions, you know what this verse is getting at. It’s a reminder to look deeper, to listen closely, and not to be taken in by surface-level impressions. Discernment matters, especially when the stakes are high.
