What does Revelation 13:10 mean?

If you're meant for captivity, you'll go into captivity. If you're meant to die by the sword, you'll die by the sword. This is where God's people need to endure and stay faithful. Revelation 13:10 - Modern Text Bible

(God's people are warned: suffering may come, but they must hold on and trust God, no matter what.)

Some people will be taken captive, and some will be killed. This is not a promise of escape, but a blunt statement of reality. The Greek word for "endurance" here is hypomonē, which means patient, steadfast perseverance. The verse calls for both endurance and faith—not as a way to avoid hardship, but as the way to face it.

This challenges the expectation that life should always be fair or that good people will always be protected. Instead, it names suffering and injustice as real possibilities, even for those who do everything right. It’s a call to courage and grit, not to denial or wishful thinking.

If you’re facing a situation that feels unfair or overwhelming, this verse doesn’t offer quick fixes. It offers solidarity and a reminder that you’re not alone in your struggle. Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is keep going, even when there’s no guarantee of a happy ending.
