What does Proverbs 8:23 mean?
I’ve existed since forever—since the very start, before time even began. Proverbs 8:23 - Modern Text Bible
(Wisdom’s existence is ancient, predating all of creation and time itself.)
Wisdom existed before the world had a timeline, before there were days or years. The Hebrew word translated as "appointed" or "set in place" is nissakhti, which carries the sense of being established or installed. This isn't just about being old—it's about being present before the very concept of time, before anything else had a beginning.
This challenges the modern idea that everything can be explained by what came before it, or that wisdom is just the result of trial and error over centuries. Here, wisdom is outside of time, not a product of evolution or culture. In a world obsessed with what's new or trending, this verse points to something ancient and unchanging at the core of reality.
If you're feeling lost in the rush of new ideas or overwhelmed by constant change, this verse suggests that real wisdom isn't something that goes out of style. It's not dependent on the latest trend or technology. Instead, it's something you can rely on, because it's been there since before there was even a "before."
