What does Ephesians 1:6 mean?

All of this is so we’d praise how generous and kind he is, since he’s given us this grace through the one he loves. Ephesians 1:6 - Modern Text Bible

(The purpose of God’s grace is to show off his goodness, given to us through Jesus.)

People are accepted and valued because of the overflowing kindness God shows through Jesus. The phrase "to the praise of his glorious grace" means that the focus is on how generous and beautiful this kindness is. The Greek word for grace here is charis, which means unearned favor or goodwill. This isn't about earning approval or measuring up; it's about being welcomed because of someone else's goodness. This verse pushes against the idea that you have to perform, impress, or check all the right boxes to be accepted. Instead, it says acceptance is a gift, not a transaction. If you've ever felt like you had to work for every bit of approval you get, this verse offers a new way: you can be received and celebrated, not because you did everything right, but because someone chose to love you generously.
