What does Revelation 2:13 mean?
I know where you live—it’s where Satan has his throne. But you hold on to me and didn’t deny your faith in me, even when Antipas, my faithful witness, was killed among you, right where Satan lives. Revelation 2:13 - Modern Text Bible
(He acknowledges that they live in a place full of evil influence, but they’ve stayed loyal, even when one of their own was killed for his faith.)
Jesus says he knows the church lives "where Satan's throne is"—a place of intense opposition and danger. He commends them for holding on to their faith, even after one of their own, Antipas, was killed. The Greek word for "hold fast" is krateō, meaning to cling tightly or not let go, especially under pressure.
This verse challenges the idea that it's easy or even possible to avoid conflict if you just keep your head down. Sometimes, simply staying true to what you believe is an act of courage, especially when everything around you pushes back.
If you've ever felt out of place or under pressure for your values, this verse honors that struggle. It says that loyalty and courage matter, even when no one else seems to notice or understand what you're up against.
