What does Revelation 13:14 mean?

It tricks those living on earth with the signs it can do on behalf of the first beast, telling them to make an image of the beast that survived the sword wound. Revelation 13:14 - Modern Text Bible

(Through its wonders, it convinces people to create and honor an idol of the beast.)

The second beast uses its miracles to deceive people, convincing them to make an image honoring the first beast, the one that survived a deadly wound. The Greek word for "deceive" is planaō, which means to lead astray or cause to wander. This isn’t just about being fooled by something flashy—it’s about being led off course by something that looks impressive but is actually false.

This verse challenges the idea that miracles or extraordinary events are always signs of truth. Sometimes, the very things that amaze us are used to manipulate or control. The call to build an image is about shifting loyalty from what’s real to what’s artificial, from the original to a copy.

If you’ve ever felt pressured to go along with something just because everyone else is impressed, or because it seems miraculous, this verse is a caution. It’s okay to ask questions, to be skeptical, and to look for what’s real beneath the surface. Not all wonders are worth following.
