What does Proverbs 8:31 mean?
I was happy with the world he made, and I found joy being with the people he created. Proverbs 8:31 - Modern Text Bible
(Wisdom delights in both the created world and in humanity.)
Wisdom says her greatest joy is found in the world God made, especially among human beings. The Hebrew word for "delight" is sha'ashuim, meaning playful joy or deep pleasure. Wisdom isn’t distant or uninterested—she takes pleasure in people, in everyday life, in the ordinary moments of being human.
This challenges the idea that wisdom is only about rules, seriousness, or staying above the messiness of life. Instead, wisdom is about being fully present, enjoying the world, and finding meaning in connection with others.
If you’ve ever felt like you don’t matter or that life is just a series of meaningless events, this verse offers something different. Wisdom finds joy in you, in your story, and in the world you live in. Meaning isn’t something you have to invent—it’s already there, waiting to be discovered in every relationship and experience.
