What does Proverbs 6:25 mean?
Don’t let yourself get caught up in wanting someone just because they look good, and don’t get pulled in by their flirty eyes. Proverbs 6:25 - Modern Text Bible
(This warns against letting physical attraction or flirtation override your judgment and values.)
Desire can take over your mind, especially when someone’s appearance or attention makes you feel noticed. This verse bluntly says: don’t let yourself get obsessed with beauty or get caught up in fantasies about someone who isn’t good for you. The Hebrew word ta’avah (craving, longing) is used here for “lust,” highlighting how desire can become a kind of hunger that’s never satisfied.
This is a pushback against the ancient—and modern—idea that it’s harmless to chase after whatever or whoever looks good in the moment. It’s a warning that letting your imagination run wild can lead you places you never wanted to go, and that real connection is about more than what you see on the surface.
If you’ve ever felt yourself drawn in by someone’s looks or the fantasy of what could be, this verse is a reality check. It’s a call to value your own self-control and not let fleeting attraction make decisions for you. Your worth isn’t tied to who you can attract or impress.
