What does Proverbs 25:8 mean?
Don't rush into a dispute, or you might end up looking foolish if someone else proves you wrong. Proverbs 25:8 - Modern Text Bible
(Think carefully before starting a conflict, because you could be embarrassed if you haven't considered everything.)
Don’t be quick to take a disagreement to court, or you might end up embarrassed when the facts come out. The Hebrew word for "hastily" is mahar, meaning to act with urgency or without thinking. This verse claims that patience and careful thought are better than rushing into public arguments.
This goes against the instinct to fight for your rights at the first sign of trouble. It suggests that impulsive actions can backfire, especially when everyone is watching.
If you’re tempted to react quickly in a conflict, this verse encourages you to slow down. Sometimes, waiting and thinking things through can save you from regret—and public embarrassment.
