What does Proverbs 22:8 mean?
If you drive out someone who stirs up trouble, arguments and fights will stop. Proverbs 22:8 - Modern Text Bible
(Removing a source of conflict brings peace to a group or community.)
People who act unjustly or harm others will eventually face trouble themselves. The verse claims that wrongdoing plants seeds that grow into problems for the one who started them. The Hebrew word for "injustice" is avel, which means wickedness, unfairness, or moral wrong. The idea is that actions have consequences, even if they aren't immediate.
This pushes back against the belief that you can get away with anything if you're clever or powerful enough. In both ancient and modern worlds, it can seem like bad people prosper. This verse says that, sooner or later, injustice catches up with you—sometimes in ways you don't expect.
If you've been hurt by someone else's unfairness, or if you're tempted to cut corners, this is a reminder that the universe has a way of balancing the scales. Doing the right thing may not always pay off instantly, but wrongdoing brings its own punishment. The world is wired for justice, even if it takes time to show up.
