What does Proverbs 22:2 mean?
Rich or poor, everyone was made by the same God. Proverbs 22:2 - Modern Text Bible
(No matter your financial situation, your value comes from being created by God, not from what you own.)
Both rich and poor people exist side by side, but they share the same origin—they were both made by God. The verse's claim is that social and economic differences don't change the basic value of a person. The Hebrew word for "maker" is asah, which means to fashion or create intentionally.
This challenges the idea that wealth makes someone more important or that poverty means someone is less. In ancient times, as now, people tended to separate by class or status. This verse says that, at the deepest level, everyone is on equal footing. No amount of money changes your fundamental worth.
For anyone who feels looked down on because of their background, or who is tempted to look down on others, this is a call to see people as people first. It invites you to treat everyone with dignity, no matter their bank account. The differences that seem huge in society fade when you see the shared humanity underneath.
