What does Proverbs 15:11 mean?
Even the deepest places of death and destruction are open to God’s eyes, so He definitely sees what’s in our hearts. Proverbs 15:11 - Modern Text Bible
(God’s knowledge is total—He sees even what’s hidden from everyone else, including our innermost thoughts and motives.)
Even the most secret places—death and destruction—are completely open to God, so how much more does He see the hearts of living people. The Hebrew words Sheol and Abaddon refer to the grave and a place of ruin or destruction, realms that were mysterious and terrifying in ancient times. This verse challenges the idea that anything can be truly hidden. It’s a pushback against the modern belief in privacy or the idea that our inner lives are off-limits to anyone, even God.
If you’ve ever hoped that your secrets or struggles were invisible, this proverb says otherwise. But instead of being a threat, it can be freeing: you don’t have to pretend or hide. You’re already fully seen. That means you can be honest—with yourself and with others—about what’s really going on inside.
