What does Proverbs 1:25 mean?

You brush off all my advice and want nothing to do with my warnings. Proverbs 1:25 - Modern Text Bible

(People actively reject wisdom’s guidance and refuse to take her warnings seriously.)

People not only ignored wisdom's call, but also flat-out refused her advice and corrections. The Hebrew word for "advice" is etsah, meaning counsel or guidance that leads to success. This isn't about minor suggestions—it's about turning down the very help that could make life better. The verse challenges the idea that being independent means never listening to anyone. In ancient times, refusing wise counsel was seen as arrogance that led to disaster. Today, it's easy to believe you have to figure everything out alone, but that can be a trap.

When you reject advice from someone who knows what they're talking about, you risk missing out on growth and avoiding pain. If you've ever ignored warnings and regretted it later, you know how this feels. The verse invites you to rethink what it means to be strong: sometimes, it means being willing to listen and change course when wisdom offers a better way.
