What does Numbers 3:38 mean?

Moses, Aaron, and his sons camped in front of the tent, on the east side, right by the entrance. They were in charge of the sanctuary and everything inside. If anyone else tried to come near, they would be put to death. Numbers 3:38 - Modern Text Bible
