What does Judges 11:26 mean?

Israel’s been living in Heshbon, Aroer, and all the towns along the Arnon for three hundred years. Why haven’t you tried to take them back until now? Judges 11:26 - Modern Text Bible

(He’s saying that Israel has lived there for centuries, so if Ammon had a real claim, they would have acted long ago.)
