What does Ezekiel 44:3 mean?

Only the prince may sit in it to eat bread before the Lord. He must enter and leave by way of the gate’s porch. Ezekiel 44:3 - Modern Text Bible

(The only exception is the prince, who can eat in the gate’s entrance area, but even he can’t use it as a regular passage.)
