What does Exodus 22:6 mean?

If someone gives their neighbor money or stuff to keep safe and it gets stolen from the neighbor’s house, if the thief is caught, they have to pay back double. Exodus 22:6 - Modern Text Bible

(If you’re holding something for someone and it gets stolen, the thief owes double if caught. This protects both the owner and the one keeping the goods.)
