What does Ephesians 1:21 mean?
Now Jesus is above every ruler, authority, power, and leader—every name you can think of, not just now but forever. Ephesians 1:21 - Modern Text Bible
(Jesus’ authority is above all others, for all time.)
Jesus is placed far above every ruler, power, and name—no authority or title comes close, not now or ever. The Greek word for "rule" is arche, meaning the highest authority, and "power" is exousia, which means the right to act or control.
This verse pushes back against the belief that anyone or anything else has ultimate control—whether it's a government, boss, celebrity, or even fate. It says that all those powers are limited, but Jesus' influence is unlimited and permanent.
If you ever feel intimidated by powerful people or systems, or worry that your life is at the mercy of forces you can't control, this verse offers a different way to see things. It suggests that no matter how things look, no one has the final word except the one truly above all.
