What does 3 John 1:3 mean?

I was really happy when some fellow believers came and told me how you’re living out the truth and staying true to it. 3 John 1:3 - Modern Text Bible

(John is encouraged by reports that Gaius is living in line with the truth of the gospel, not just believing it but practicing it.)

John is glad because he’s heard that Gaius lives out what he believes — he "walks in the truth." The Greek word for truth here is alētheia, meaning reality or what’s genuine, not just correct facts. This verse challenges the idea that what you believe and how you live can be separated. For John, truth is something you do, not just something you agree with. In a world full of spin and half-truths, this is a call to be real and consistent, to let your actions match your words. For anyone tired of hypocrisy or fake personas, this verse offers a different path: living honestly, even when it’s hard, is worth celebrating and sharing.
