What does 2 Samuel 22:16 mean?
'The sea’s depths were exposed, the earth’s foundations uncovered, when the Lord roared and breathed out his anger.' 2 Samuel 22:16 - Modern Text Bible
(David says God’s power is so great that even the deepest parts of creation are laid bare when he acts.)
David says that when God acted, the valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth uncovered. The Hebrew word for 'foundations' is mosad, meaning the very base or support of something. This is a way of saying that nothing is hidden or too deep to be reached when real justice or truth breaks in. In both ancient and modern thinking, some things seem too buried or secret to ever come to light. This verse pushes back, insisting that even the deepest secrets or hurts can be brought into the open.
If you feel like your pain or your story is hidden, this verse offers hope that nothing is too deep to be seen or healed. It’s a reminder that truth and justice can reach places you thought were out of reach, and that even the most buried things can be brought into the light.
