What does 1 John 1:3 mean?

We’re sharing with you what we’ve seen and heard, so you can share in this connection with us. And our connection is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus the Messiah. 1 John 1:3 - Modern Text Bible

(John’s goal is to invite others into the same relationship with God and Jesus that he and the other witnesses have. It’s about real community and shared life.)

John says the reason he talks about what he has seen and heard is so that others can share in the same connection—what he calls "fellowship." The Greek word here is koinōnia, which means a deep, mutual partnership or sharing. It's not just about agreeing on ideas; it's about being included in a real, living relationship—with both other people and with God.

This challenges the idea that faith or spirituality is just a private affair, or something you do on your own. John insists that the point of sharing this story is to invite others into a community—a shared life that includes both human relationships and a connection to something bigger.

If you've ever felt alone or wondered if there's a place where you truly belong, John's claim is that this kind of belonging is possible. It's not about joining a club or signing up for a set of beliefs; it's about being welcomed into a genuine partnership, where life is shared at its deepest level. The invitation is open, and the connection is real.
